This Website is dedicated to

***Carrie (Carolyn) Purtzer***

Carrie was the first leader of the Energetics 4-H club. The club was one of the first all urban clubs. The club organized in the 1960's, and one of its first presidents was her son, Stephen Purtzer. The club had a different name initially, but was renamed Energetics when both boys and girls joined. Mary Martin was an assistant leader, and her children were members. Virginia Miller was another assistant leader with all four of her children as members. Dan Miller, the current head leader of the club, joined the club as a 4-H member in 1973. Mrs. Miller became the head leader after Mike Purtzer completed his tenth year.

"Hey Energetics 4-H Club!! I just wanted to let you all know what a WONDERFUL web page you have here. I was just browsing the internet searching for some 4-H information for my persuasive speech here at Purdue University. I am persuading people to join 4-H because I believe it is the most worthwhile activity a person can get involved in. I am a former 9-year 4-Her and Jr. Leader. Some of you might know me or my siblings. This is Patrease Woodside writing you to tell you all that the more you get involved in 4-H and the more you put into it the more you will receive from it. I made it a point to get involved in 4-H and Jr. Leaders and from that I have received and still continue to receive many great opportunities to make a difference in this world. For example, I would not be at Purdue if it weren't for 4-H. I would not be majoring in Food Manufacturing Operations and on my way to a wonderful job that I like, I would not be going to Russia to study abroad for Purdue's School of Agriculture this summer, and the most important thing of all is that I would not be who I am today if it weren't for 4-H because 4-H has molded me into everything I am today and will be in the future. I know this is all kind of deep for you younger 4-Hers but take my word for it -- 4-H is DEFINITELY worth your time and effort! May you all continue to have fun in 4-H and don't forget who made you.
And Zach, don't corrupt the 4-Hers too much! :)"
    - Love ya! Patrease M. Woodside, Purdue University, School of Agriculture.

    "Hey Energetics!
WOW! What a web page. I sure did enjoy
reading all about your club. You have done
a great job getting involved in 4-H.
You are fortunate to have such good leaders,
both present and past, to lead you on your way.
You have inspired me to encourage my club to make a web page.
Our club is the German Gems, here in Vanderburgh County.
Our officers are Leah Reich, Adam Kulenkamp, Aaron Deig and Pat Kissel.
If you know any of them, maybe you could encourage them to
make a web page, too. I'll bet you had fun
doing it and learned something, too.
    Keep up the good work!"
    - Linda Deig, Head Leader, German Gems 4-H Club
FROM: Purdue Student and former Energetics 4-H Club Member 01 Mar 1999 -
"Fellow 4-Hers, I just wanted to say hey to ya'll and wish you good luck in the up-coming fair project year. Also wanted to say how proud I am of you for being in 4-H! It's a great organization and will teach you life lessons you will never forget. I know maybe some of you don't like going or think monthly meetings may be boring, but hang in there! I promise you the ideals and values you learn through 4-H will last a lifetime. 4-H will give you lots opportunites to go on a lot of fun and exciting trips that are just awsome.
I remember when I was your guys' age I always wanted to be in 4-H but never had the nerve to ask my parents. Be thankful that your parents have given you the opportunity to be a part of such an awsome organization. I was only able to be in 4-H for three years, but I loved every second of every program I was involved in! You will meet friends in 4-H that you will never forget and make a few you will keep all of your life. I have, and I am thankful that I was able to make those friends! My 4-H friends are really the only ones I keep in contact with. I know they will always be there for me.
For you members who know me, I am glad I was given the chance to work with you. You are an awsome group. And you new ones, who don't know me, you are going to be awsome too! Dan is a great adult leader and you have a great group of adults helping out! And remember, they are there for you!
From up here at Purdue I wish you the best of luck and the best of times! God-bless!" - Andrew Coomes, School of Agriculture, Purdue University
    (Class of 2002).

"I am visiting our web site for the first time. Sad to say, the head leader
of the Energetics is somewhat behind the times. But now I am on
the net and can be e-mailed instead of snail-mailed. 4-H is a great program,
and the Energetics 4-H Club has a year-long program that promotes
    community service, leadership, and achievement.
We truly do make the best better. Our club year
is under way, but it is not too late to join. (We accept new members
through April.) If you have more questions,
or want to enroll in 4-H, my personal e-mail address is

Home site you have. I have been a 4-H Leader for 14 years and even
though my children are too old now I have decided to stay on for a few more
years in the capacity of a Key Leader as feel 4-H is the best
program going for our youth." - Diane Joiner, 4-H Leader.

"Great web page. Maybe our club should get a website. I've recently been
elected secretary for the 97-98 4-H year. Me and the other future officers
are planning on shaping up our club because for the past several years our
club has really been slacking off. We're going to start by having meetings
that last longer than five minutes. If you have any suggestions that we could
use to help our club, puleeze e-mail me at rwatts@rocketmail.com ."

is great and I wish that other 4-H clubs who have the internet would do the same
thing so the word about 4-H grows. I am setting my own webpage with a section
about Kansas 4-H and was wondering if you (The Energetics') had any ideas about what
I could put on mine. It would be helpful because I have no idea of what to put.
I just have to say again, your webpage is great!!" -Gail Allen(allen1@kans.com), 4-H'er.
